Bootleg Beatles wow crowd

- SAM COSTANILLA (This column should have been published last Monday. Spotlight returns to its regular schedule on Aug. 1. -Editor)

SHE’S FINE. Following her explosive fight with fiance Egor Tabarasov over the weekend, Lindsay Lohan posts a photo of herself on a boat (bottom photo) reporting that she’s all right. She captioned the photo on Instagram: “Dear friends. I’m good and well. I am taking time for myself with good friends. I am sorry that I’ve exposed certain private matters recently. I was acting out of fear and sadness… We all make mistakes. Sadly mine have always been so public. I have done a lot of soul-searching in the past years, and I should have been more clear-minded rather than distract(ed) from the good heart that I have.” Over the past decade, Lohan’s life has been tainted with drama and bad behavior, far from the adorable 12-yearold child that the public fell in love with in the movie Parent Trap (top photo). YOUTH. I must commend a newly organized group of young individuals here called Inerxa Productions (IP). Its organizers say the group is youth-led, youth-supported and youth-empowered and stands on three pillars which are mobilization, creation and accomplishment. They add that they want to explore and tap the unlimited potential of and from the young community. To me, this move deserves the full support of the general public so that the youth sector would be inspired to focus their energy and talent to productive and wholesome endeavors.

MUSICAL. As IP’s maiden venture, it is coming up with The Lost Anthem, an original musical whose actors and actresses come from different universities in Cebu City. I gathered that this pilot project touches on issues that the youth would possibly encounter as they make their way into adulthood. At the same time, it tackles issues that adults would possibly encounter as their young ones face adolescence.

PLAYDATE. The playdate is on Aug. 20 at SM City Cinema One. It has five time slots: 10 a.m., 12:30 noon, 3 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. I learned that Jay-arr Librando is the musical director while Danielle Cabaña handles the choreography and Reynan Dayot and Benedict Salise are the stage managers. The musical’s writers are Alvin Molina, Cassandra Lomax Rodriquez, Melody Esther Loren Hodgson, Xanthe Daphne Valerie Alcasid, Julianne Alexis Manibay and Angela Coleen Conde, who is also the executive producer. Overall director is Jissa Saludar. For ticket reservations or purchases, call or text IP public relations lady Guada Arganza at 0932-478-3664.

CONCERT. Then on Aug. 28, all roads will definitely lead to Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Barangay Lahug for the 7 p.m. concert called Stephanie Centerstage. The main performer is the lovely and talented daughter of my good friend Aida Patana, the lady behind M Talent Events & Promotions, The Home of the Stars. Stephanie will have the support of other entertainers like Ethel Booba, Alden Richards, Daniel Matsunaga, Anna Fegi, Dulce and Manolo Pedrosa. Aida is happy to tell us that all VIP tickets at P1,000 apiece have already been sold out. However, tickets for the other sections are still available like P800 for Gold, P500 for Silver and P300 for Bronze.

BEATLES. To say that the performance of The Bootleg Beatles here last week was fantastic is an understatement. The four “copycats” from England sang and looked like the original Beatles. Their first or opening number was I Saw Her Standing There that perfectly set the mood for the entire evening of the original Fab Four’s several hits. They had several costume changes to boot. The show was spectacular, to say the least, but the downside was that they didn’t sing their other hits—and my personal favorites—like

Across the Universe, Till There was You and Nowhere Man. YOUNG. I thought that the crowd would be composed of individuals 40 to 50 years old and older, considering that the original Beatles lorded it over the global music scene in the mid-1960s. But I was surprised to see a lot of the young sector that also came to the concert, like those belonging to the 20-year-old age bracket and below. In fact, before the “copycats” sang Twist and Shout, they asked some members of the audience to join them onstage as their impromptu backup dancers—and more than 10 young spectators (must be in their early 20s) eagerly proceeded to the stage.

POPULARITY. To me, the original Beatles is still tops in the international music scene. With the Bootleg Beatles performing here and there, we could safely say that the original Beatles music—or Beatlemania— lives on. By the way, I should thank my good friend Michelle Torres and her company for producing that successful concert here. Who’s next, Michelle?

TIDBITS. Congratulations to Jhunnex Napallacan on his assumption as dyLA station manager, replacing Jun Tagalog who is now with the Associated Labor Union’s education and information department ...Filmmaker Marlon Hofer a.k.a. Mustard Seed will soon join the drama production department of Cebu Catholic Television Network channel 47 where his Cebuano short films can be aired ...Next Monday, I shall publish here the names of the lucky finalists to this year’s Huniño songwriting festival slated on Aug. 27.
