ONE of the 11 police officers who tested positive in the region-wide drug test conducted by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 might just save himself from losing his job.

The police officer tested negative in the confirmatory test in Camp Crame.

The remaining 10 police officers, though, may have to say goodbye to the government service after the confirmatory test sustained the initial test result.

“One of them who is from Bohol justified the result as he tested negative in the confirmatory test,” said Supt. Henry Biñas, chief of Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) 7.

Biñas said that the other 10 police officers have been notified following the mandate of those who tested positive of drug use. They have been given more than a week to challenge the result before the RIDMD will start the summary dismissal proceedings against them.

Of the 10 police officers, four of them are from Cebu Provincial Police Office and one each from the Cebu City Police Office, Mandaue City Police Office, Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, Bohol Provincial Police Office, PRO 7 and Highway Patrol Group.

Meanwhile, 49 officers from the region, most of them are non-commissioned police officers, have yet to submit their Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALNs) before the PRO 7.

Biñas said the officers must be able to provide a valid reason their failure to comply with the deadline set before April 1.

Biñas said that the submission of SALNs was part of the lifestyle check of the police force to determine if they have ill-gotten wealth.

“If they cannot give a justified reason, we will charge them accordingly based on the existing law,” he said.

The SALNs will then be forwarded to the Office of the Ombudsman, Biñas said. JOB
