Capitol CPDRC consultant quits post

-

CAPITOL consultant on jail matters Marco Toral gave his resignation letter to the Office of the Governor yesterday morning.

Gov. Hilario Davide III said that with the recent issues surrounding the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), Toral could no longer handle the pressure.

With the CPDRC being swamped with issues on drugs, an escape, death of ten diseased prisoners in a month, and the discovery of cyber-pornography, Davide said it is not an easy job.

The governor said Toral volunteered to resign because there were doubts about his performance.

Davide shared that, in their long talk last Friday, Toral felt sorry for what happened and decided to resign.

“He also felt sorry that this happened under my watch because he assured me that he would do his job well,” he said.

Davide accepted his resignation and thanked him for his service.

Davide said that he is not eyeing anyone now to replace Toral.

“Ako sa’y warden nila (As of now, I will be their warden),” he said.

On the other hand, Davide said that last week Toral and Manansala submitted a list of names of jail guards and administration personnel who may have links to irregularities.

“We will investigate the stubborn jail guards,” Davide said in Cebuano.

The list will then be forwarded to the Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) for further investigation.

Davide said they will investigate how the gadgets and drugs were smuggled inside the CPDRC.

With regards to overcrowding, Davide said they are planning to build additional structures to house the inmates and assign permanent doctors to attend to their health.
