A MALE college student of a private university in Cebu City is facing criminal charges in court for allegedly threatening to upload on social media intimate photos of a female student if she would not give him P500 worth of cellphone load.

Prosecutor Jill Ann Gealon found evidence to charge the suspect with violation of Republic Act 9995, or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, before the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City.

A P100,000 bail is recommended for the accused’s temporary freedom. Sun.Star Cebu is withholding the suspect’s name since he is a minor.

The victim, an-18year-old second year college student, said she received a private message on Facebook from a friend who supposedly asked for her email address and password.

The victim’s friend told her she wanted to “download something very important.” The victim agreed and gave away her email address and password.

But the victim later realized that it was not her friend who asked for her email address and password but the suspect.

The accused then sent her private photos of her and that of her boyfriend showing her private parts.

“He (accused) use the photos to blackmail me by demanding P500 worth of cellphone load and threatened me that he would spread the photos on social media if I will not give in to his demand,” the victim said in her affidavit.

Assistance

Apart from cellphone load, the suspect also asked the girl to have sex with him, or he would upload her photo on the social network.

The victim later sought assistance from their school’s security department officials, who then accompanied her to report the matter to the police.

The police conducted an entrapment against the suspect inside a fast-food chain in downtown Cebu last July 29.

The suspect threatened the victim that he would order his fellow hacker to upload her intimate photos if the police would arrest him.

The suspect is now facing charges for violating Section RA 9995, which prohibits taking photos or video of a person or group of persons performing sexual act or any similar act and copying, reproducing, publishing and distributing them.
