A 57-YEAR-OLD man was shot and killed by an unidentified gunman in Sitio Tan-awan, Barangay Guadalupe, Carcar City last Monday morning.
Police identified the fatality as Melchor Parañal Cerdon.
The slug also hit Gina Antipuesto Panilag, who is recuperating in a hospital in Cebu City.
According to SPO4 Jorame Tanudtanud, before the incident happened around 11 a.m., Melchor and his wife Gregoria attended a hearing for a murder case against PO1 Aquiles Legaspi Redoble at the Regional Trial Court Branch 60 in Barili.
Redoble is accused of killing their 19-year-old son Daryll. Daryll is his nephew since Redoble and Gregoria are siblings.
The Cerdons later boarded a multicab after the hearing. They did not know the suspect was a passenger.
Dead on arrival
After the gunman disembarked in Tan-awan, he shot Cerdon twice and boarded a parked motorcycle, then sped away.
Cerdon was rushed to the Carcar Provincial Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Investigators found two empty shells from a .45 pistol in the crime scene.
Gregoria reported the incident to the police station.
Last April 14, Redoble of the Cebu City Police Station 9 allegedly shot Cerdon thrice.
Investigation showed the suspect’s family and victim’s family have a long-running feud involving properties and other “trivial” matters.
In Lapu-Lapu City, Richard Ramires, 28, was killed after he was shot several times near the City Hall of Justice yesterday dawn.
Theft links
Ramires, a resident of New Paradise in Barangay Pajo, was linked to several theft incidents.
According to the investigation conducted by PO2 Marven Saraum of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section, Ramires was last seen at 11:45 a.m. last Monday. He was selling a pair of shoes at P400.
A person who was having a drinking session with friends near the scene heard several gunshots.
He saw a person on board a motorcycle pass them.
They then saw Ramires’s bloodied body on the road. He was still holding a pair of shoes.
Police Senior Insp. Alcon Escosura, head of Homicide Section, said the victim was a “notorious” thief in the area.
The victim’s body was brought to Surelife Funeral Homes where it will be autopsied.
Police are still trying to identify the gunman.
