Piolo: I had flu before Ironman

- DANIELLE ANN A. TAN (USJ-R JOURNALISM INTERN)

Looking fresh and revitalized, Piolo Pascual had undergone medical treatment after having flu for almost a week before the Ironman Asia Pacific Championship last Sunday held at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa in Cebu.

The film and television actor, musician, model and producer went abroad before coming back to the Philippines and competed as a member of the tri-team of Sun Life Financial for the Ironman that he had been competing in for three years in a row.

“It kind of pushes me more to be better in what I do, not just in the field of show business but of course in the field of sports and wellness,” Pascual said in an interview before the competition.

He also said that as soon as his condition got better after the flu, he immediately went for a run just to prepare his body for the race and as soon as he arrived in Cebu, he spent a day riding his bike but that was it because he got sick again.

“I’m not saying I’m fit to finish or finish good but I guess you also need to listen to your body,” Pascual added.

When asked who his inspiration is when it comes to sport, Pascual said the local athletes are his inspiration because they represent the country which he also represents.

The newest ambassador of Sun Life and the very own son of Piolo, Iñigo Pascual, was also there to show support for his father.

Sun Life financial chief marketing officer Mylene Lopa said Pascual was chosen to be the ambassador and part of the tri-team because he really is a good athlete and he is living the values of their company.
