A BALLIN’ GOOD TIME

- BY HANNAH V. OBAL (CONTRIBUTED FOTOS)

With a great sport like golf, it comes as no surprise that mini golf has also steadily gained popularity. Also known as miniature golf or putt-putt, mini-golf began to emerge during the early 20th century and has since become a favorite pastime, especially in Europe and North America.

In Cebu, a mini golf course called Harvig’s Mini Golf Fun Park can be found at Parkmall. Thanks to Swedish owner Christer Harvigsson and his wife, Emily, the couple decided to open up the mini golf park when they realized that there was none in Cebu.

Harvig’s Mini Golf Fun Park is the latest craze at the pet friendly mall, a welcome addition to the mall’s green landscape, further adding a leisurely aesthetic to it.

Here are four top reasons why one should definitely check out Harvig’s Mini

Golf Fun Park:

It’s for everyone. If playing golf is something one has been clamoring to do, then mini-golf is the answer. It’s a little less intense than the full out golf fields, which is great for those who just want to get the feel of a golf club and do a little putting, but is still challenging enough to make it a competition among friends and family. Also, it’s pretty great for children, too! Absolutely fun. With the nine holes and 19 obstacles that Harvig’s has, challenges have never been more fun! From getting the golf ball through loops, zigzags and over bridges, the possibilities are endless and the techniques can get a little comical with those who are a little less impatient and not much for tactics. All good fun, though. Childhood days. Nostalgia is on the list at Harvig’s Mini Golf Fun Park for those who have played mini golf in the past, and for those who haven’t. The mere experience of playing outdoors is enough to remind anyone of childhood days spent playing in the sun, laughing and having a good time. Sometimes, all one needs is a day out in the sun to feel good.

The finale. Instead of returning the golf ball to the attendant by actually handing it over, one can take it up a notch and try to get the ball into a hole that connects to a basket within the small shop where the golf balls are stored. The catch? The hole is situated vertically atop a 45 degree incline. A blend of perfect aim as well as the right amount of force is the winning combo to getting the ball in. Now, that’s a challenge!

Harvig’s Mini Golf Fun Park is open Monday to Thursday from 2 to 10 p.m. and Friday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is located at the Enclave Garden of Parkmall, along Ouano Ave., Mandaue City, Cebu.
