FVR's blast

- EDDIE O. BARRITA

EX-PRESIDENT Fidel V. Ramos (FVR) has expressed deep dismay the President Rody Duterte administration sanctioned the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos in the Libingan ng mga bayani (LNMB) on Nov. 18.

FVR called FM’s sneaky and hasty burial at the LNMB "an insult to the veterans."

Well, lawyers tell us FM’s burial at LNMB is “fait accompli,” an accomplished fact. Is there something that could still be done?

*** FVR said he hopes the Supreme Court would act favorably on a bid to cite in contempt all those responsible for FM’s burial that stunned the nation with its suddenness and military precision.

It seems that what the military used to do-- act with military precision.

No wonder those who opposed FM’s burial at LNMB were caught unaware.

*** FVR stopped short of calling for exhumation of FM’s remains from the LnmB. Really, what would happen if the high court reverses itself? Would there be an exhumation?

What if FM’s family files a motion for reconsideration and the high court again reverses itself?

This could be the beginning of an interesting story on the many burials of Ferdinand Marcos.

*** FVR said the scheme of the Marcos family with the connivance of some elements of AFP and PNP is “a step backward for this administration in the sense that they are losing support, losing friends."

FVR recently resigned his post of special envoy to China on the West Philippine Sea issues.

Let’s see what happens next. FM still has his loyalists, but victims of Martial Law wouldn’t allow him to rest in peace.

*** FVR was then AFP vice chief of staff who, together with then defense minister Juan Ponce Enrile, broke away from FM, sparking the 1986 EDSA people power revolt.

Marcos was ousted and forced into exile in the US and in 1992, Ramos himself was elected president, succeeding Corazon Aquino.

But do you think FM’s LNMB burial can spark another people power uprising?
