Lapu Mayor Radaza says the community usually reports to her about cops allegedly in cahoots with drug personalities in the barangays

SOME 23 members of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) who were reportedly involved in illegal drug activities were sent to the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 and underwent retraining.

Of the group, ten were directly reported to City Mayor Paz Radaza.

Senior Supt. Rommel Cabagnot, director of MCPO, said all of them were no longer assigned in Lapu-Lapu.

Cabagnot said they once again underwent basic training and were reassigned to another area.

“Assurance nako basta involved sa drugs wa nay papel diri sa (I assure the people that those involved in illegal drugs has no role here in) Lapu-Lapu,” he said.

In a press conference, Radaza said that she received several reports from people in the different barangays about police officers that were involved in illegal drugs. “Ang komunidad mo- mention gyud sila as to kinsa nga police ang involved sa drug personality sa (The community knows the police involved with the illegal drug personalities in the) barangay,” she said.

The mayor forwarded the names of the 10 police officers that were named by the residents to Cabagnot for validation.

Radaza requested the LCPO director to remove these police officers allegedly involved in the illegal drugs activities from the city.

“There were some of those nga nirequest ko i- out sa Lapu-Lapu. Mga two to three nalabay kanang frequent ang feedback sa barangay aron maundang ang komentaryo (that I requested to be removed from the LCPO. Some two to three policemen were reassigned outside the city, particularly those who were frequently reported to me),” she said.

The mayor has been coordinating with the police and found out that there were persons who were caught in illegal drug operations that were not from LapuLapu City.

She said these drug suspects usually go to the city to deliver or use illegal drugs.

Radaza said there are still drug users and pushers that continue to surrender.

From July 1 to Oct. 20, the city already had 1,900 drug surrenderers.
