Cebu boxing officials file petition asking GAB’s Nasser Cruz to step down for being ‘corrupt’

-

ENOUGH is enough. Majority of Cebu's boxing officials are sick and tired of Dr. Nasser Cruz's alleged abuse of power and want him to step down or be kicked out of his position as chief of the Games and Amusements Board's (GAB) Boxing and Other Contact Sports Division.

The boxing officials, composed of judges, referees and ring physicians, headed by international judge Edward Ligas, have filed a petition against Cruz before new GAB chairman Abraham Mitra. They also sent copies of the petition to Sec. Salvador Medialdea, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, Senator Manny Pacquiao and chairman of the House committee on games and amusements Rep. Gus Tabunting.

"We want to put a stop the illegal and immoral acts of Nasser Cruz. He is the subject of our petition. We already asked for his transfer but up until now he is still there," said Ligas. "There are a lot of people who are qualified to take his place. The important thing is that they won't be corrupt."

The petition was signed by Ligas along with other officials in Cebu - Edgar Olalo, Tony Pesons, Dr. Jose Unabia, Dr. Rene Bonsubre, Edwin Barrientos, Romar Embodo, Noel Flores and Arnie Najera.

The petition pointed out Cruz's alleged abuse of power like insisting on asking for girls and food, allowing incompetent officials to officiate fights, allowing mismatches, allowing boxers to fight outside the country without trainers or cornermen, acting as a cutman for a foriegn boxer despite being a member of GAB, human trafficking to name a few.

If Mitra won't make a move against Cruz, Ligan and the other Cebuano officials will be forced to file this at the Office of the Ombudsman.

"If nothing happens, we will file a case at the Ombudsman."
