TWO Cebuanos, both scholars, were among the top 10 passers in the Chemical Engineer Licensure Examination given last Nov. 22.

Cebuano Ariel Raye Rica, a graduate of the University of the PhilippinesDiliman, placed second with 84.20 percent.

Franz Loui Rosario, a University of San Carlos graduate, placed seventh with a rating of 80.9 percent.

Only 534 of the 918 examinees passed the exam given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Graduates of the De La Salle University-Manila got the first and third place in the board exam.

In an interview, Rosario said he is still overwhelmed by the results.

“I was truly ecstatic knowing that I passed the board exam and when I found out that I placed seventh, di na gyud madescribe akong nabati, nag ambak- ambak ug nagligid na gyud kos kalipay (the feeling is indescribable, I was jumping for joy),” he told Sun. Star Cebu.

Rosario said his motivation was his parents and family, who only hoped that he would pass the exam. He said he wished to make them happy and proud.

Because he knew the board exam is difficult, he said he worked very hard to prepare for it, oftentimes missing sleep so he can study.

“Ang board exam dili pa braytanay, kon dili pananingay (The board exam is not a gauge of who is the smartest but who works the hardest),” he added.

Rosario, a scholar of Petron Corp., said he plans to work for the company soon.

The PRC also named UP Diliman and UP Los Baños as the top to performing schools for chemical engineering, respectively.
