Talisay police chief to name bry. official

Dante says he will tell Mayor Gullas himself the official’s name

-

THE acting police chief of Talisay City is ready to name the barangay official from Tanke whom he identified as an alleged drug protector.

But Supt. Emerson Dante, acting Talisay City police chief, said he will only do so in front of Mayor Eduardo Gullas.

Dante’s reaction came after Gullas planned to meet him to clarify on his statement that a barangay official from Tanke was allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade in their village.

Earlier, Barangay Tanke Chief Perla Cabanes chal- lenged Dante to name the barangay official so that they can take measures against him or her.

Meeting

During the weekend, Cabanes and barangay officials from Tanke met with Dante and vehemently denied that they were involved in the village’s illegal drug trade.

Even though he refuses to name the official, Dante reiterates his stand that one of Barangay Tanke’s officials was involved in the drug trade and will only divulge it in front of the city mayor.

Dante said he advised Cabanes to watch out for her fellow officials.

He even admitted that aside from barangay officials, he was also approached by an operative of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) who allegedly tried to convince him to release some of their drug suspects that they arrested in Tanke.

In a separate interview, Gullas said that while he doesn’t know Dante very well, he believes that his statements have basis.

“He is very decent and stable gentleman, unya dili siya mo- alleged ana unless he is very sure of his ground,” Gullas added.

Proof needed

In an earlier interview, Cabanes told Sun.Star Cebu that it was unfair for Dante to name one of her barangay officials as a drug protector even though he has yet to present evidence to prove it.

Cabanes explained that even though their village has been known as a haven for drug pushers, she and her fellow officials had worked hard to prevent illegal drugs from entering their barangay.
