Storm moves Cebu’s trip to Batang Pinoy

-

TROPICAL depression “Marce” has hindered the trip of both Cebu Province and Cebu City delegates to Tagum City for the Batang Pinoy National Finals, which is slated on Nov. 27 to Dec. 2.

The 315-man delegation of Cebu City and the 110-man squad of Cebu Province were scheduled to leave on the same vessel going to Cagayan de Oro City last night but tropical depression Marce, which affected Central Visayas, barred vessels from leaving Cebu port yesterday.

A Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TWCS) No.1 was raised in certain areas in Visayas and Mindanao, including Cebu.

Danny Villagracia of Cebu City Sports Commission told Sun.Star Cebu that they’re waiting for the advisory from the Philippine Coast Guard when they will be allowed to depart.

“We’re waiting for the 5 p.m. advisory. If the vessel can’t depart today (Nov. 24), we hope we can go tomorrow or on Saturday,” said Villagracia.

He said that despite the postponement of the trip, the team can still make it as the opening ceremony will be on Sunday and most of the games will start on Monday.

Atty. Ramil Abing, on the other hand, said that he’s hoping that the tropical depression will be out soon so the studentathletes can start their travel going to Tagum City. The delegates will travel via ship going to Cagayan de Oro City, and then will take a bus going to Butuan, and another bus from Butuan to Tagum City.
