Prince William applauds Harry’s declaration
Prince William—also Duke of Cambridge—denied disapproving of Prince Harry’s statement concerning his new relationship. “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him,” a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said. “A statement like this would not have been released without the Duke first being consulted.” The Palace was referring to Harry’s statement admitting his relationship with actress Meghan Markle while condemning how some media resorted to harassment in order to gain information about Markle. Harry also noted how some people have criticized Markle to the point of making racist remarks.
The royals are not known to make public remarks about their social life. A source also told The Telegraph: “They don’t issue statements like that without talking to each other, and they talked about the Meghan Markle statement extensively in advance of it being put out.”
“The Duke was as alarmed as anyone about what was happening with Meghan. No one wanted to have to put that statement out, including Prince Harry, and there was concern about confirming the relationship.”
Over the weekend, there were published insinuations that William was not happy with his younger brother’s public admission of something so personal. William, second in line to the British throne, is protective of the family’s privacy.
