Bogo City takes on fellow contender ARQ Builders for spot in Cebu Friendship Cup finals

THE Bogo City squad will try to secure the slot for the championsh­ip game as they face strong contender SG/ARQ Builders in the final day of the eliminatio­n round of the Cebu Friendship Invitation­al Basketball Cup 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cebu Coliseum.

Meanwhile, the visiting Sarawak Eagles of Malaysia (0-1), who was set to play a crucial match against the Builders (1-0) last night, will be facing the revitalize­d University of San Carlos Warriors (0-2) in the main game at 8 p.m. The Sarawak U17 squad (1-0) will face the redhot University of Cebu Baby Webmasters (0-3) in the opening game at 5 p.m.

Bogo City showed it is one of the contenders as it defeated the Sarawak Men’s Team and the University of San Carlos Warriors in the out-of-town games at the Don Celestino Martinez Coliseum in Bogo City over the weekend.

The Bogo squad beat the weary Sawarak Eagles, 76-65, last Nov. 26 then survived the Warriors, 88-86, last Sunday to lead the tournament with a 2-0 winloss card.

Bogo City’s might, however, will be tested at 6:30 as it faces the veteran laden and import spiced-SG/ARQ Builders, who defeated the Warriors, 97-86, last Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Sawang Calero.

In the U-17 category tournament, the University of Cebu Baby Webmasters picked their second win with another blowout victory this time over the Team B of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles (0-3), 98-61, last Sunday at the CCSI.

Sarawak was set to face the Don Bosco Technology Center Greywolves (1-1) at press time last night.

The Greywolves scored their first win, 76-68, over SHS-AdC last Saturday with Vinz Lenard Macam leading the way with 19 points. Jao Celerinos had 16 points for the Magis Eagles.
