Argao wins provincial Daygon tilt

-

A COMPOSITE choir using costumes made from “hablon” materials and organized by the Municipal Government of Argao bested eight other local government units and emerged as the champion in the annual Provincial “Daygon (caroling) Contest” held last Dec. 12 at Capitol grounds.

Argao, represented by Councilor Jonathan Villegas in behalf of Mayor Stanley Caminero, received a trophy and P50,000 cash as prizes.

The choir is composed of personalities from religious sector, academe, professional, youth and government sectors.

Members of the 29-member choir included Fr. Socrates Cabanig, member, team of pastors, St. Michael the Archangel Argao parish; Rev. Nichol Rank; with Charise Mae Sarches, among others.

Jo Concepcion of CTU Extension Services acted as facilitator, while Jun Veloso as conductor and multi-awarded composer of IEC theme song, Jayr Librando, was the assistant.

“Ang Pasko Karon,” by Mabuhay singers was the common song but in the case of Argao it was arranged by Arnel Pano.”

According to Villegas, the choir members used Argao’s hablon fabric for their costumes, which was a major criteria in the contest.

“We were not really after the cash prize, but first, the honor and prestige given to the town and second, the promotion of hablon,” said Villegas.

Argao won the second prize when it first participated the other year.

Inspired by their victory, Villegas said he will propose to the mayor to create an official municipal choir.
