Weaving Fashion
This is where style and culture mix. This is Anthill Fabric Gallery.
Founded in 2010 by Anya Lim together with her mom Annie, Anthill (Alternative Nest and Trading / Training Hub for Indigenous / Ingenious Little Livelihood seekers) is a social and cultural enterprise that works to preserve and promote Philippine weaving traditions through modern design applications in lifestyle products to provide sustainable livelihood to its partner weaving communities.
It carries products from home decors, buttons and accessories to paintings and apparel among many.
With this in mind, Anthill presents its holiday collection 2016 called Weave Got You Covered as modelled by Charina Altarejos Tan, mom, digital entrepreneur, brand strategist and fitness enthusiast; Dr. Maan Briones Ting, physician,
co-founder of the7.ph and Cebu Global Shaper; plantbased chef, wellness advocate and Cebu Global Shaper Chip Lopez; studio director, certified yoga teacher and founder of YogaHub Philippines Jenifer Martinez; interior designer, lifestyle entrepreneur and fitness enthusiast IDR. Holly Dawn Dychangco; and Jacklyn Kaye Uy, photographer, illustrator, branding and marketing consultant as well as lifestyle vlogger at thesundayproject.net—all proud weave wearers.
According to Anya, co-founder and managing director of Anthill, this collection presents various designs in weaves that fit one’s present-day lifestyle.
“Since it’s the holidays, most of our clients are out and about travelling and they want to be able to wear a weave with them. This collection carries coats, jackets, wraps, cover ups that are easy to wear from day to night,” she said about the inspiration behind the collection. “We envision for every Filipino to embody our culture into their way of life at least through weave wearing. We hope that every Filipino is able to own a weave in their closet. That is why we constantly challenge ourselves to come up with designs that fit into our modern day lifestyle.”
This is a hub where fabrics are more than just a material to complete a design but an essential tool that speaks not just of style but also a garment that tells a story of fabric weaving. “We want our weave wearers to gain a sense of pride,” said Anya. “We want them to feel that they are wearing a statement piece—not just because of the story behind the weaves but also because as they wear it, they also make a statement in their support of our weaving traditions. As we say in Anthill, wear your tribe with pride.”
The holiday collection 2016 Weave Got You Covered is available at the Anthill Fabric Gallery located at Pedro Calomarde St. corner Acacia St. Gorordo Avenue, Lahug Cebu City, The Honest Henry x ANTHILL in Maria Luisa Road, Banilad and also at Tesoro’s Makati.
