New music from homegrown talents, Wonggoys
This Jan. 7, 2017, Cebu will have a taste of some fresh homegrown music from The Wonggoys who will be releasing their sophomore album with a release party at The Greenery.
The band of brothers—Gabe, Bill, and Kyle Wong fondly call themselves the Wonggoys: a playful take on their surname and how their mother used to call them when they were little (“unggoys,” read as “my three little monkeys” in English). Together they exude mirth and lyrical storytelling with their feel-good tunes of modern folk and rhythm and blues. They released their debut album, I’m Not
Sure What To Say But I’ll Say It Anyway in 2010 under independent record label 22 Tango Records. Six years later, the boys are back with new material that’s a departure from the acoustic guitar-driven sound of their previous album, as they showcase a more experimental sound. Still under 22 Tango Records, the follow-up album, titled High Hello, will contain nine new tracks, including the recently released single Weekend, which is now available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and other digital distribution sites. Produced by Cattski Espina, High Hello was recorded at 1032 Recording Studios in Cebu, and Yellow Room Recording Studios in Manila.
Homegrown acts Lourdes Maglinte, Vincent Eco, Honeydrop and Bethany will also be playing during the Wonggoys High Hello launch.
The album will be available for download and streaming on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, GooglePlay and Deezer. CDs and other merchandise will also be available starting Jan. 7.
