CVIRAA JOCKS TRAIN WITH DR. DEJANO
Olympic physician Dr. Rhoel Dejaño to conduct strength and conditioning training for Cviraa-bound athletes
To prepare for the 2017 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa), the athletes of Cebu City Niños will join the strength and conditioning seminar conducted by Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) and Department of Education (Deped) Cebu City Division.
The seminar, which is divided into three sessions, is led by Cebuano certified sports conditioning trainer Dr. Rhoel Dejano together with three other physicians.
Deped Cebu City sports coordinator Zenaida Gocotano told SunStar Cebu that the seminar started last Jan. 7 with 142 athletes, covering the sports of athletics, gymnastics, arnis, swimming and futsal.
The next schedule is on Jan. 21 with 166 athletes.
The third and final schedule is penciled on Jan. 28 and has 163 listed athletes from basketball, volleyball and sepak takraw.
“This is the first time that we (Deped Cebu City Division) conducted the strength and conditioning seminar for Cviraa,” said Gocotano.
“We have done it before but it was in preparation for the Palarong Pambansa.”
The Cebu City Niños, who dominated Cviraa for 24 straight years, will be fielding about 500 athletes for the sporting conclave on Feb 12 to 17 in City of Naga, Southern Cebu.
Gocotano said that the screening committee will come to Cebu on Jan. 25 to interview and evaluate the athletes before to know each one’s strengths and weaknesses.
The winners in the 2017 Cviraa will represent Region 7 in the Palarong Pambansa, which will be held in Antique Province this summer.
The sporting events to be contested are archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics (MAG, WAG and RG), sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, and the newly added regular sports—wushu, wrestling, billiard and futsal. /
