MISS UNIVERSE CANDIDATES GET SOCIAL
Forty-six of the most beautiful women in the world have arrived in the country as they vie for the Miss Universe title on Jan. 30.
According to the Philippine Entertainment Portal, Miss US Virgin Islands Carolyn Carter was the first to arrive. She arrived in the country last Jan. 7 yet.
The next day, Miss Guyana Soyini Fraser also arrived.
A total of 86 women will vie for the crown during the Grand Coronation Night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. But before that, they will showcase their swimwear at the JPark Island Resort and Waterpark in Cebu.
The Philippines will be represented by 26-year-old interior designer and model Maxine Medina.
Just recently, some Filipinos criticized Medina's poor Englishspeaking skill while talking to the media in a press conference.
An ABS-CBN report quoted Mark Arthur Payumo Abalos, an English language training specialist, defending Medina: “Maxine has improved a lot. She is hardworking and she's doing her best to become a better version of herself.”
“Errors are normal. Even first language speakers of English commit mistakes, too. At the end of the day, it's just a beauty contest. Maxine will still be beautiful. She'll still be designing interiors. She has a beautiful life ahead. How about you?” Abalos said in a Facebook post seemingly addressed to Medina's bashers.
Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, meanwhile, was still in New York as of yesterday—based on her more recent Instagram posts. Here are Wurtzbach's, Medina's, and some of the contestants' Instagram posts upon their arrival in the country:
