CEBU CITY'S GARBAGE NOW ENDS UP IN ALOGUINSAN, TO THE DISMAY OF CARCAR CITY'S RESIDENTS

-

A private company that collects garbage from Cebu City has dumped it in a private landfill in Aloguinsan town, site of one of Cebu’s emerging ecotourism destinations, the Bojo River Cruise. Some residents in Carcar City have complained about the stench as the dump trucks from Jomara Konstruct Corp. pass by with their loads. Jomara also moved some of the city’s waste from a transfer station in Inayawan to Consolacion town. Aloguinsan is 59 kilometers south of Cebu City via Carcar, but 72 kilometers via Naga-Toledo.

The private service provider that the Cebu City Government tapped for its garbage disposal has been throwing the city’s wastes in two private landfills.

The two facilities are located in Aloguinsan and Consolacion.

General Services Office chief Ronald Malacora said Jomara Konstruct Corp. is dumping the City’s trash in the two landfills since they are doubling their efforts in disposing the garbage.

Malacora said Jomara has an existing contract with Asian Energy Systems Corp. in Consolacion but they also signed a separate agreement with the private landfill operator in Aloguinsan because their trucks are affected by the truck ban in Mandaue City.

“Sometimes, they can’t transport the collected garbage immediately to Consolacion because of the truck ban,” he said.

When told about the complaints of some residents in Barangay Poblacion 3, Carcar City, Department of Public Services assistant department head John Paul Gelasque said it will be up to Jomara to address it.

“It’s their call because the City did not enter into any contract with the owners of the landfill in Aloguinsan,” he said.

SunStar Cebu tried to get Jomara’s comment about the matter yesterday but the person in charge was not available.
