Contingents wary about ‘zero signal’ in grand parade
THE shutting down of cellular sites remained the big challenge for all the contingents who will be joining the Sinulog grand parade tomorrow.
The heads of contingents raised this matter yesterday during the solidarity meeting that the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) and the City Government conducted.
SFI Executive Director Ricky Ballesteros said that he told the contingents to map out their plan since “zero signal” is expected to affect their communications.
Councilor Dave Tumulak, who was tasked to oversee the Sinulog celebration, said that instead of cellular phones, contingents may use hand-held radios.
“Their top concern is the zero signal. That’s why we informed them about it ahead of time. At least, as early as now they can take their initiative on how to improve their communication,” said Tumulak.
Aside from the communication contingency plan, Tumulak also encouraged them to have security plans to allow them to guard their own people in case of emergency.
Contingents were also warned to expect last-minute changes of schedules, particularly on the time of their performance, as organizers will have to rely on recommendations the police will made. He said that this is part of the security measures that they will be implementing during the grand parade tomorrow, which will start at 9 a.m.
A total of 23 dancing contingents, 42 floats, 24 higantes and 18 puppeteers will join this year’s grand parade.
For the first time, Ballesteros said that they will announce the winners immediately after the grand finale.
