SUCCESSFUL. Kudos to both Benedicto College (BC) and Sandiego Dance Company (SDC) for a tremendously successful cultural show last week at the school’s artists’ hall. It featured the beautiful dances from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. BC president Francisco Benedicto came up with what he envisions to be a monthly presentation to help boost Cebu tourism as well as arts and culture. SDC choreographer and leader Val Sandiego should also be lauded for such amazing presentation.
CONCERT. Ingrid: Grand Finale is actually international concert pianist Ingrid Sala-Santamaria’s way of celebrating her 77th birthday on Feb. 25, not necessarily to end her music career. It means she would still play in concerts here in Cebu from time to time, or as the occasion arises. Her show next week is one that all music lovers should not miss as she will have the Cebu Symphony Orchestra and the Peace Philharmonic Philippines backing her up. US-based musician Rodel Flores will conduct the entire show at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino. EDUCATION. What’s beautiful about Ingrid: Grand Finale is that it has a music education hour for students. The aim is to encourage the students to appreciate classical music. Two of Dr. Santamaria’s alumnae, Hazel Sanchez and Hannah Go, as well as their parents are producing this concert. SEARCH. I should commend Byran Claudio Deiparine and his staff of Power Dream House for launching the Search for Star Idol Kids and Teens on Feb. 18 and 25, at The Stage of Elizabeth Mall. It starts at 1 p.m. Singing champions Jacqueline Chang, Marielle Montellano and Archie Marcial are the special performers. Tickets are at P70 only. (For comments, text 0932 277 8771)
