“Natulog na siya, tua na siya ni God (He’s asleep already, he’s in God’s care).”

Gemma, 27, the widow of Philip Pogoy, who was killed in a road crash on the flyover on Archbishop Reyes Ave., comforted a little girl who called him Daddy while peering at his coffin.

In an interview with SunStar Cebu, Gemma described her 28-year-old husband as a responsible father to their two kids and a caring partner to her.

“I have goiter that’s why he discouraged me from working. He worked alone and was the breadwinner of our family,” she said inside their home in Banilad, Mandaue City.

Pogoy was declared dead in a public hospital in the city when he suffered severe injuries after a sports car collided head-on with his motorcycle on Saturday dawn.

She said the death of her husband has not fully sunk in yet.

Pogoy, a father of an eightyear-old boy and a two-year-old girl, often woke up early dawn to buy fish from the Carbon Public Market to sell it to a barbecue out- let in Mandaue.

In the afternoon, he would sideline as a habal-habal driver to have extra cash to feed his family.

“He was a good friend to those who knew him. Of all persons, why him?” Gemma said, wiping her tears.

She refrained from commenting her thoughts of David Go Lim, a car enthusiast and a Cebu-based businessman, who drove the sports car that hit Pogoy.

“It’s up to our lawyers on what they will decide as I couldn’t form a stand on this incident because I am grieving for my husband’s death,” she said.

Gemma has been with Pogoy for eight years. He was a homebody who was shy that he didn’t want to pose for pictures.

She regretted not waking up when he left her side last Saturday.

“I was sleeping while he was suffering stuck on the hood of a sports car. He must have hurt so bad,” she said.

Gemma hoped that Lim would surrender. She has yet to decide when to bury her husband.

Pogoy’s relatives said that they were also haunted by the remnants of his crushed helmet, blood tracks, debris from his broken motorcycle and drag marks evident on the flyover on Archbishop Reyes Ave.

Lawyer Pedro Salva, Lim’s lawyer, said that his client insisted that he was following on the proper lane and didn’t encroach on the area where Pogoy was driving.

Lim and Pogoy’s camp are set to try to reach a settlement today, represented by their lawyers. /
