■ CEBU CITY MAYOR THREATENS TO SHUT DOWN ANOTHER BDO BRANCH

-

BDO Osmeña Blvd. branch allegedly under declared its annual gross receipts. That's why Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña wants to close it. In his news conference last Wednesday, the mayor reiterated his warning that he will go after all of the bank's branches in the city. “That will be the next in line that will be closed,” Osmeña told reporters. If the branch only declared P7,000 as gross annual income for 2015, it seems it's only paying P.50 per day tax to the City. “Alkanse gyud ang Syudad di ko modawat ana. Baga ilang nawng,” he said. The mayor, in a Facebook post, said the bank declared low gross annual income in previous years until it suddenly went up last year.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has threatened to close another branch of BDO Unibank for alleged under-declaration of their annual gross receipts.

This time, the mayor wants to shut down the operation of BDO Osmeña Blvd. (formerly Jones Ave.) branch.

In his news conference last Wednesday, Osmeña reiterated his warning that he will go after all the branches of the bank.

“That will be the next in line that will be closed,” Osmeña told reporters.

In his Facebook post, Osmeña said the bank declared a low gross annual income in the previous years but it suddenly increased last year.

“There is a BDO branch in Jones. Their declared gross revenue for 2014 was P54,000. For 2015, they claimed to only have made P7,000 for the whole year. Do you know what they declared for 2016 after I became mayor and started cracking the whip? P2.3 million. That’s a little closer to the truth, don’t you think?” Osmeña said in his post.

If the Jones branch only declared P7,000 gross annual income for 2015, Osmeña said it seems that they’re only paying P.50 per day tax to the City.

“Alkanse gyod ang syudad, di ko modawat ana. Baga ilang nawong (The City is at the losing end. I won’t tolerate that,” he said.

Earlier, Osmeña also filed a case against BDO Magallanes-Plaridel branch for tax evasion.

SunStar Cebu tried getting the reaction of BDO Osmeña Blvd. branch but no one was available for comment as of last night.
