SPOTLIGHT. Fighting the Big C

- SAM COSTANILLA samcost@yahoo.com

CONCERT. It was a concert like no other. To say that the show was highly amusing is an understatement. Anyway, Sakdap, Cebu’s only all-male quartet, staged a very successful concert the other Sunday to the delight of the crowd. The Capitol Social Hall, the show’s venue, was filled to the rafters. It was presented as a fund-raising project to help Irving Guazon, one of Sakdap’s singers, in his fight against the Big C.

FRIENDSHIP.

The concert was also a celebration of friendship as some of Sakdap’s friends and supporters came and performed. Genevieve Flores, KC Dilao and Niña Bridgette Cabigas sang their award-winning song Gugmang Maka... during the 37th Cebu Popular Music Festival. Singing champ Daryl Shane Leung did Pangandoy that made him Best Interpreter in the VisPop 3.0 competition. Singing priest Fr. Jonas Mejares rendered a very nice acoustic version of Kausa Nabasa ang Tubig while Roy Caballero and Bobby Jamiro performed Ania Na after him. Girlie Lapinid-Laspiñas, and the Bisrock band Missing Filemon (Insoy Niñal and company) also wowed the spectators with their numbers.

STARS.

Of course, the main stars delighted the crowd with their splendid performance. Gani Villarojo, Josil Mariño, Henry Jabonero and Guazon did it again. By the way, let me thank show producer Gloria Villarojo for inviting me to do the voice over of the entire show plus a short solo standup comedy.

FESTIVAL. On Easter, April 16, the 13th Sugat Kabanhawan Festival in Minglanilla will start with the traditional street dancing at 2 p.m. The contest proper will be at the Minglanilla Central School grounds at 4 p.m. My good friend Marvey Caño will direct the event.
