UV beats sister-team, 1513, to win boys title in SBP 3 on 3 tournament Abellana National School outlasts Carmen, 14-11, for girls title UV, ANS to represent Central Visayas in national finals in May
The University of the Visayas won the boys’ crown in the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) 3-on-3 regional finals last Saturday in Minglanilla town. A free throw conversion by Beirn Laurente lifted UV past the Cebu Ballers, a sister-team,y and into the winners’ circle, 1513. Meanwhile, the Abellana National School outmaneuvered Carmen, 14-11, for the girls’ title. Both UV and Abellana breezed through the group stage, 3-0, and will now represent Central Visayas in the national finals in Manila in early May.
The University of the Visayas UV) and Abellana National School (ANS) 1 took home the titles in the SBP 3x3 Under-17 Pambansang Tatluhan Regional Finals last Saturday at the Sisters of St. Mary Boystown in Minglanilla.
UV bagged the Boys crown with a 15-13 overtime thriller over the Cebu Ballers.
After the game was tied at 1313 in regulation, Beirn Laurente converted his free throw to take a 14-13 lead for UV. Joshua Yerro then sealed the match with a basket, 15-13, because of a win by two rule in overtime.
Jearolan Omandac led UV with eight points, Yerro had four, and Laurente added three.
The Cebu Ballers, composed of players from the UV Passerelle team, were led by Froiland Maglasang’s six points. Osias Padilla added four, and Joshua Canoy chipped in three.
UV was unbeaten the whole tournament, sweeping the group stage 3-0, and beating Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) B, 1512, in the Round of 16. UV also beat DBTC A, 14-12, in the quarterfinals and Toledo, 17-9, in the semis.
ANS 1, meanwhile, defeated Carmen, 14-11, to take home the girls’ title. ANS 1 breezed through the group stage with an undefeated 3-0 slate. ANS 1 edged out Minglanilla, 6-5, in the quarterfinals and then outclassed ANS 2, 13-3, in the semifinals.
The ANS 1 team is composed of Jhiane Janel Ferrolino, Kathrine Kaye Pacada, Fllorence Gil Talas and Darleine Ragasajo.
UV and ANS 1 will represent Central Visayas in the SBP 3x3 Under-17 Pambansang Tatluhan National Finals on May 5 and 6 at the Robinson’s Place Manila. /
