As a reader of SunStar, I am happy with the newspaper’s new format wherein various printed news content are being classified accordingly.

I find your new system of categorizing the news content to be of great help to the reader since it guides them to the specific page title classification. It is a very practical system of news categorization, especially to the senior citizens, of which I am already one of them.

With your new system, a reader is properly guided to the specific page of the topic she or he wants to read. A reader does not have to turn several pages but is just guided by the classification/ categorization.

So once again, I extend my congratulations, specifically to the SunStar management, for introducing the new system, which greatly helps readers of your newspaper.-- Letecia Canoy, Maryville Condominium, Gorordo St., Cebu City

I am an avid reader of your established and respected newspaper. Your new setup and the size and color of the paper are very interesting.

But I think the plotting of the map in the World section is not necessary and just occupies a lot of space. I think the space would have been more useful for additional information.-- Troy Hoyohoy of

Appointing barangay officials

This is a reaction to your editorial on the plan to postpone the barangay elections and have President Duterte appoint barangay officials.

If indeed majority of the barangay officials are honestly serving their constituents, they have nothing to fear about it. Surely, they will not be replaced and will be reappointed if ever the proposed bill by Rep. Robert Ace Barbers on the matter would pass in Congress.

I strongly believe that President Duterte will decide based on performance especially on how much effort was given in his war against illegal drugs and even illegal gambling. Let us understand that these are priorities of his administration and their success need the help and commitment of everyone at the barangay level.

A test case was the list requested by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) from barangay officials on the drug personalities in their respective barangays.

The completeness of the list will show the extent of their effort and maybe test if the barangay officials are protecting known drug personalities if their names don’t appear in the list submitted to PDEA.-- MMR (via text message)
