Happy Easter Sunday

- EVELYN R. LUAB eveluab@yahoo.com

Jesus Christ is Ris’n today. It is a time for rejoicing. There was a time when the children would come home to Cebu to bond with the rest of the family. They all had long vacations and they took advantage of it. My daughters from the States made it a point to come home during Holy Week with their families.

We always went south of Cebu to enjoy Moalboal and Badian. We enjoyed our convoy along the way. We stopped at Carcar’s famous lechon. Our next stop was at Argao then we proceeded to where our cottages were in Moalboal. It was several days of pristine beaches and the children were roaming from cottage to cottage while parents busied themselves with kite flying and so many other activities. All of us stayed at one cottage till late in the evening just exchanging stories and experiences.

All of those days are just memories now. Our priorities now have changed ever since the grandchildren started growing up. Plane fares are quite expensive and we have changed as far as Holy Week is concerned.

All these changes in activities are for the best. Churches are full and the faithful are busy each with their families paying homage to our Redeemer.

Our Lord is Ris’n and has gone up to Heaven where God sits on His throne. To quote Fr. Don Don Aquino, “Easter Sunday is our identity as Catholics.” It is really fitting that we celebrate with much rejoicing such a great feast of our church. Most of us attend retreats during Lent.

Today, children will be painting eggs and hiding them on the lawn for the younger ones to find. Others will spend their Easter Sunday at hotels, which open their doors to entertain the kids with so many gimmicks so as to entice parents to spend time and money at these hotels.

Our millennials, who were with their families during Lent, will probably celebrate Easter Sunday with their friends.

Another great Catholic Feast has come and gone. It will be another year before we will again spend time in prayer as avidly as we have done this year.

For older folks, the practice of leading their families toward the churches is a given. For the younger ones, we still have to see how we can bring them to worship with us.

Prayer and faith during these trying times are what we need in our communities. How we can succeed is still a big question which we hope can be answered with prayer, God’s grace and His abundant love. Let us celebrate today.
