Family nabbed in drug bust
A couple along with their 16-yearold son and house help were arrested in a buy-bust in Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City last Thursday night.
The Mandaue City Intelligence Branch (CIB) led by Senior Insp. Marvin Fegarido caught the operation’s main target, Patrick Roel “Ewi” Legaspi, 36.
Legaspi’s wife Melody, 37; his stepson John (not his real name); and Ronnel Espino, 21, were also arrested.
The operation was conducted in the Espina compound at 10:15 p.m.
Fegarido, chief of the City Drug Enforcement Unit, said that the family is selling illegal drugs.
“The Legaspi couple do not have a decent source of income,” he said.
Their buyers of illegal drugs were the customers of an electronic game establishment in a mall.
Fegarido said that the CIB already caught several drug suspects near the establishment and pointed to Legaspi as their source of shabu.
Fegarido said the minor was used by his stepfather to deliver drugs to their buyers.
As for the family’s house help, Fegarido said he assisted Legaspi in his illegal drug activities.
Authorities recovered a total of 11 sachets of suspected shabu from Legaspi.
One sachet of the same substance was seized each from Melody, John and Espino.
The suspects were temporarily detained in the holding cell of the Mandaue Police Station 1.
The minor, Fegarido said, will be turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. /
