Mike Rama’s desperate moves

-

Kulang sa pansin” (KSP) or lacking in attention. This is how I describe “hasbeen” mayor Michael Rama nowadays. He is trying to attract public attention or coming up with publicity stunts, some which are overacting (OA). This guy has not gotten over his shameful defeat in last year’s election.

Consider this. Last April, he led an inauguration of a newly constructed bridge in the mountain barangay of Buot-Taup. What was his intention in doing so when he is no longer the mayor? He can attend inaugurations if invited by barangay officials but as an ordinary guest. In Buot-Taup, he was the one who cut the ribbon.

Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella and Councilor Joy Pesquera, who are his party mates and who were also invited to the affair should have been the official representatives of the city. Imagine, Mike delivered a long speech causing the delay in the serving of the lunch. Giawhag pa kuno ang mga tawo nga ibutang ang ilang mga kamot sa ilang dughan isip pagtimaan sa ilang loyalty.

Last week, he held a press conference with his loyal barangay captains in the south district questioning the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which is set to build an underpass along Natalio Bacalso Ave., for not consulting him and his barangay captains in the areas affected by the project. The press con was held on the day when a dry run on rerouting was held.

Again, in what capacity is Mike acting that he needs to be consulted? He is no longer a public official. And what did he do during his term as mayor to solve the traffic problem in the area?

Not contented with the press con, Mike went to the project site together with newspaper photographers and TV cameramen. Wearing a white American suit, he stood in the middle of the street and danced like John Travolta while managing the traffic for a while. Was he in his right mind at that time?

Last Monday during the celebration of the 119th Independence Day, Rama and his political supporters held a celebration separate from the official activity initiated by City Hall. After holding a mass at the Cathedral, his group proceeded to Plaza Independencia and held a program where he again delivered a long speech.

We are in a democratic country and are allowed to exercise our freedom of speech and assembly. But what was Rama’s intention in holding a separate activity? If his intention was just to show his patriotism and love of country, he should have participated in the city government-sponsored activity as an ordinary person. Anyway Labella, his ally, was the one leading the affair as the acting mayor.

Did you know that Mike is making the rounds in the barangays every morning shaking hands? It is still two years before the next elections and he is already campaigning. Poor Mike Rama.

Here’s my suggestion. Why won’t he run around naked? Or climb an electric post and sing on top of it? Wa kaha ni siya mayabag?
