GBP’s 7th Fire Olympics held

-

Global Business Power Corp. (GBP) continued to strengthen its fire safety and emergency preparedness among its employees in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Toledo.

Now on its 7th year, the partnership paved the way for the creation of GBP’s Fire Olympics that gauged the firefighting readiness of its employees.

Five all-man teams, composed of 12 members, went through three events: busted hose replacement, hose-laying and fire extinguisher relay.

The team who applied the best strategy and finished the relay with the least amount of time was declared the winner.

“Today’s event is all about speed. However, I encourage every participant to forget the competitive part and think that you are trying to save actual lives and properties,” said Antonio Cabalhug Jr., GBP Toledo vice president to the site head.

The Cebu Energy Development Corp. ( CEDC) team was declared this year’s champion followed by Security, Support, Toledo Power Company and Carmen Power Station.

A bucket relay event was also held and participated by two all-woman team composed of five members, where the TPC team bested CEDC.

“Let us remember that though this is a competition, today is not all about winning. Awareness that we have learned in line with fire safety is far more important,” said Eric Montemayor, GBP Cebu site central maintenance head as he closed this year’s GBP Fire Olympics.
