GO CAPTURES WOMEN’S TITLE IN PORTER GOLF

Cebuana finishes 3-round tourney with 8-under 208 to win 5 strokes

Cebuana Lois Kaye Go played the best round in her young golf career as she shot 7-under 65 in the final round to snag the women’s title in the Porter Cup Golf Tournament at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, US last June 7 to 9.

The 18-year-old Cebu Country Club (CCC) stalwart finished the three-round tournament with 8-under 208 to win by five strokes against Lauren Waller of Penn States.

Go fires four consecutiv­e birdies and pulled away from Waller

spiked with eight birdies—five of which in the last eight holes—to come back from being down two strokes after the first two rounds.

The Cebuana standout fired four consecutiv­e birdies in holes No. 14, 15, 16 and 17 to completely pull away from Waller after getting tied up in hole No. 10.

“I was very surprised with the way I played today. I really wasn’t expecting it. It was actually my best round of my life,” Go, who just finished freshman year at Boston College, said in an interview posted on Facebook.

Go shot 2-over 74 in the first round and was trailing by three strokes from the joint early leaders Waller, Naomi Ko, Anna Redding and Linda Wang. Go shot 69 in the second round to come within striking distance, down two strokes.

Waller shot par 72 in the third round to finish with 213 good for second place, while Ko of British Columbia, Canada faltered with 2-over 74 for a 215 and settled for third place.

According to an article posted at www.portercup.com, Go is the No.1 player for Boston College with 71 scoring average and was one of the only two freshmen to make all-Atlantic Coast Conference.

“I’m very honored to win this tournament,” Go told Buffalo News “I have aspiration­s of turning profession­al so I hope this tournament will give me enough confidence throughout my last three years of college and hopefully in the profession­al tour after that.”

Go played as a junior golfer for CCC before transferri­ng to the US to play college golf. /
