Dy debuts in big UFC vs. Caceres

-

Rolando Dy makes his way to the big league as he debuts in the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) this Saturday in Singapore.

Dy, the son of former world champion Rolando Navarrete, will take on UFC veteran Alex Caceres in one of the preliminary bouts of UFC Fight Night Singapore at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

After an impressive run in the PXC (Pacific Xtreme Combat) last year, the 28-year-old Dy finally got his shot at the biggest MMA promotional organization in the world.

Dy won all three of his fights last year against previously unbeaten fighters. He defeated fellow Pinoy Miguel Mosquera and Aussie Aydin Mrouki by unanimous decision and knocked out Japanese Koyomi Matsushima in the first round.

Dy, however, will have his hands full against the experienced Caceres.

The 28-year-old Caceres is an alumni of the Ultimate Fighter series. He has been in 16 UFC fights and has been fighting in the organization since 2011. He has fought the likes of Urijah Faber, Yair Rodriguez, Cole Miller, Sergio Pettis and Damacio Page.

Caceres has lost his last two fights, wherein his latest was a second-round submission loss to Jason Knight last January.

Dy is 8-4, while Caceres is 12-10.

Another Filipino fighter is also seeing action in the undercard— URCC flyweight champion Carls de Tomas.

The 20-year-old de Tomas (8- 0) faces off with 19-year-old undefeated Japanese Naoki Inoue (10-0).

The main event features a women’s featherweight fight between former champion Holly Holm (10-3) and Beth Corriea (10-2-1).

Also in the main card is a heavyweight fight between ex-champion Andrei Arlovski (2514) and Marcin Tybura (15-2); a welterweight bout between South Korean Dong Hyun Kim (22-3-1) and Colby Covington (11-1); and a lightweight match between former lightweight titleholder Rafael Dos Anjos (25-9) and Tarec Saffiedine (16-6). /
