SANTACRUZAN GLAM BY CEBU DESIGNERS
Flores de Mayo has passed but not without its outstanding ternos worn by beautiful women. For the third year, SM Seaside City hosted Santacruzan sa Sugbo with ternos made by Clothes for Life Foundation.
On May 20, a photo exhibit with the actual gowns displayed was launched as a teaser for the upcoming parade. This introduced the varying “Reinas” who would be wearing the ternos designed by fashion designers from Clothes for Life. The parade was held on May 28, and beautiful women sashayed around SM Seaside bringing classy, flowery and pleasing ternos most beautiful and perfect for this year’s Flores de Mayo.
“Every year is different. For this year, it’s more on the young vibe so the designs are quite modern looking. But at the same time, since SM is a mall for tropical designs, the designs this year are tropical; notice the flowers and their colors,” said Philipp Tampus, president of Clothes for Life.
The feast of the flowers had 34 Sagalas with 34 Reinas each to their own designer. “Each designer is assigned one title. So, there are 34 different ternos with a designer each assigned with their own creation and their own aesthetics. They will dress up each model with the different Sagala. For example, if it’s Rosa Mystica, she will bring rose with all the symbols,” said Tampus.
The celebration began with the coronation of Reina Emperatriz and a mass at the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod at 4 p.m., followed by the grand procession at 5 p.m. at the Mountain Wing Atrium.
Dr. Che Bernad graced the procession and was crowned as Reina Emperatriz clad in a beautiful gown designed by Cary Santiago with Karla Bautista Siao as Reina Elena wearing a gown designed by Tampus.
