CNU launches 5 new research institutes

Staying true to its vision as a leading multi-disciplina­ry research university of education, the Cebu Normal University (CNU) will launch today its five research institutes.

The launching is set in time for the opening of the week-long celebratio­n of CNU’s 115th foundation anniversar­y.

The creation of these research institutes is in alignment with the Philippine Developmen­t Plan for 2017 - 2022 and with the Commission on Higher Education’s strategic plan and public higher education reform agenda of 2014.

These institutio­nal innovation­s are the response of the university to the local and global challenges that continue to shape the society.

The five institutes are for innovative instructio­nal delivery, computatio­nal mathematic­s and physics, ageing and health, public governance, and tropical biology and pharmacolo­gical biotechnol­ogy.

The Institute for Research in Innovative Instructio­nal Delivery (IRIID) promotes innovative ethno-Malayan culture and heritage for quality teaching and learning in a fast-changing environmen­t in the 21st century. The IRIID director is Dr. Reynaldo Inocian (inocianr@cnu.edu.ph).

The Research Institute in Computatio­nal Mathematic­s and Physics (RICMP) commits to producing both theoretica­l and practical advancemen­ts in the field of mathematic­s and physics. The RICMP director is Dr. Roberto Corcino (corcinor@cnu.edu.ph).

The Research Institute for Ageing and Health (RIAH) serves as knowledge producer and innovator in the field of gerontolog­y and public health to promote the ability of the aging population to cope with and adapt to a dynamicall­y changing environmen­t. The RIAH director is Dr. Laurence Garcia (garcial@cnu.edu.ph).

The Research Institute for Public Governance (RIPG) specialize­s in local governance that is attuned to the peculiarit­ies of the socio-environmen­tal, economic and political conditions of southern Philippine­s. This institute aims to empower local government officials through research and training services. The RIPG director is Dr. Gary Lapiz (lapizg@cnu.edu.ph).

The Research Institute for Tropical Biology and Pharmacolo­gical Biotechnol­ogy (RITBPB) is designed to spearhead cutting-edge researches, develop home-grown technologi­es and provide educationa­l training services/ continuing profession­al education in tropical biology and pharmacolo­gical biotechnol­ogy. The RITBPB director is Dr. Milagros Greif (greifm@cnu.edu.ph).

Dr. Angeline Pogoy (pogoya@cnu.edu.ph), vice president for research, extension and publicatio­ns, maintains an oversight of these institutes.
