Meaningful fashion by Galicia

- MONICA R. LOPEZ / Writer

Catwalk for a Cause was a benefit fashion show and auction dinner that took place at Fort McKinley Restaurant, South San Francisco, California last May 5. This was organized by Pilipino Seniors Resource Center (PSRC), San Francisco Bay Area Ateneans and Share+Give Initiative, all in the hope of raising funds for the orphans from the Precious Heritage Foundation in Antipolo, Philippines and the PSRC breast cancer program.

Notable Cebuana fashion designer Gia Galicia launched her line in 2012 and rebranded it to gia, galicia. A total of 24 pieces were showcased including creations by Gia’s designer friends from Los Angeles and San Francisco namely Yenni Lam, Rolando Carlin, Adrine Karapetyan and Eva Mejl during the show.

Some of the items that were up for auction were an antique San Roque statue and Vietnamese artwork both donated by the Consul General of San Francisco, Golden State Warriors’ Andre Iguodala signed jersey, two-nights stay at WorldMark Windsor Resort in Sonoma, a one-hour session with Top Manila photographer Lito Sy, a one-hour session with Miss California Tami Farrell for Beauty and Image consulting as well as dresses donated by Monique Lhuillier, Bailey 44, Black Halo, Rebecca Taylor, Karl Lagerfeld, Tadashi Shoji and so many more.

“After spending some time with the children of Precious Heritage a couple of years ago, I vowed to do better and do more charitable work for our less fortunate brothers and sisters,” Gia said. “I wanted to now use fashion as a force for good—this time by doing it as a means to generate funds for charitable institutions. Having two family members who have been affected by breast cancer, I wanted PSRC to be a part of this fundraiser.”

Gia Galicia’s works have been worn by many celebrities and personalities including Vivica A. Fox, and model and dietician Maye Musk. She’s also the founder of Share+Give Initiative.
