Beauty looks at the Tony Awards

-

While I do enjoy looking at what stars wear to awards fashion-wise, I’m always curious about what they wear beauty-wise. Some awards shows are so casual that celebrities might put on a long dress, some foundation, and leave things at that, leaving this beauty enthusiast wanting for more. But, this year’s Tony Awards, held last Sunday, did not disappoint. The formal event saw many stars making an effort in both their fashion and makeup choices.

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett looked equal parts classic and edgy in a belted high-slit shirt dress. I think her full bodied, lightly sculpted hairstyle complemented her clothes perfectly. Her makeup was decidedly grown-up, compared to some of her previous looks where her brows were barely groomed and she didn’t even bother with eye makeup. I feel like special-occasion makeup should call for some effort when it comes to eyeshadow, because lipstick can be done on the daily, but no one really wears full-on eye makeup for day to day. Scarlett’s eye look included sparkly shadow, softly smoked lash lines, and obvious eyeliner, but no intense eyelashes to keep it from going over the top. Her tawny blush and soft pink lipstick wrapped up the whole look, from clothes to makeup, perfectly.

Laura Osnes

I can only dream of having such blindingly shiny hair. I think the long, soft waves look beautiful with Laura’s opulent dress; an updo would have seemed older. While the eyebrows are a little more arched than I think is necessary, they frame her face and eyes just so. Black eyeliner and a rosy-tawny lip are all that’s needed with a dress like this, along with glowy skin.

Lea Salonga

One of our most famous singers was on the red carpet too that night. I love her eye makeup and how the blue-gray adds a little more something than just a charcoal eye to match her sparkly grey pantsuit. Black liner all around the eyes can be minimizing, but take a cue from this look and smoke out the shadow beyond the crease so that eyes don’t seem smaller. Don’t forget some shimmer on the inner corners to keep eyes looking bright. I think Lea had the best brows on the red carpet that evening, and her smile doesn’t need more than some peachy-pink gloss to enhance it.
