The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Board of Trustees approved the proposed new policies for this school year during a board meeting last Wednesday.

Among the changes are the allowing of senior high school student athletes who is over the age limit cut-off for the high school division to play in the collegiate division of the same school.

This is good news for players in the high school competition— like Raul Jancork Cabahug of the University of the Visayas Green Lancers and Jan Joshen Mangaron of the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars—who are over 18 but still in high school.

Cabahug, who opted to stay with UV despite offers he re- ceived from Manila, can now showcase his skills against college players.

UV head coach Gary Cortes confirmed to SunStar Cebu that Cabahug is among the additions in his line-up for the 2017 Cesafi basketball Season.

Mangaron meanwhile, who played for the Don Bosco Technological Center Greywolves last year, is now available to be linedup with the USJ-R Jaguars following the approval of the school owners to amend the league’s house rules “to address the developments with the establishment of Senior High School.”

All basketball teams will have until July 14 to complete and submit their respective line-ups, while teams in other sports will have an Aug. 15 deadline.

In addition, the board also clarified that the one-year residency is no longer needed by a student-athlete who transfers from one member school to another, if he or she is given release papers.

The tournament format to be followed this year is a double round robin elimination round for the collegiate division and a a single round robin for the high school level. The semifinals will be a straight 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 pairing with the two higher ranked teams earning twice to beat edge. The finals will now be a best of three series.

Cesafi also added the ladies futsal as a demo sport this year. /
