Sheeran ‘leaves’ Twitter

Lady Gaga came to the defense of Ed Sheeran after her Little Monsters drove the British crooner off Twitter.

Early this week, Gaga posted a photo of herself and Sheeran on her Instagram account. She captioned it: “What an incredible artist. I love Ed. (He) deserves all our love and respect like all humans do."

“I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and a part of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean,” Gaga added.

Sheeran told The Sun that he is no longer active on Twitter: "I've actually come off Twitter completely. I can't read it. I go on it and there's nothing but people saying mean things. One comment ruins your day.”

Sheeran's account is still active but it appears that a social media manager is handling it with official posts about Sheeran's professional activities.

The hate from Gaga's fans started when Sheeran appeared to have dissed Gaga in a radio interview.

"I do not want to be the kind of artist who has had two successful albums and then feels invincible. ...You've seen them become the biggest artists in the world, and then suddenly they will say, 'I know everything!' And just after, they are no longer at the top,” Sheeran said in an interview early in the year.

While he did not mention names, Gaga's fans known as the Little Monsters felt like their idol was alluded to considering that the pop star's first two albums: The Fame (2008) and Born This Way (2011) were huge hits. The follow-up albums: Artpop (2013) and Joanne (2016) had disappointing sales.

Sheeran has since clarified that his comments were not directed at any particular artist.
