Due to maltreatment and false accusations against him, Marvin Gimpeso, 32, escaped from Cebu City Jail in Barangay Kalunasan last Monday dawn.

In an interview with reporters yesterday, Gimpeso said he was upset when he was earlier accused of escaping from the facility when he was just sleeping.

"Because of the accusation that we escaped, we were tortured for two hours. I was hurt because they did not listen to our explanation and because of that I promised to myself, I will escape," he told reporters.

More than a day after he ran away, Gimpeso was captured yes- terday by Councilor Dave Tumulak while he was sleeping inside his friend's house in Barangay Suba.

Gimpeso also claimed that food served to them was not well-prepared.

"Even if the fish is still raw, they will serve it to us but we can't complain," he said.

Tumulak said he will let Gimpeso undergo medical check-up before he will bring him back to the city jail.

Gimpeso was in a wheelchair when he was brought to City Hall yesterday because of the injuries he got from jumping the wall of the jail.

Tumulak, deputy mayor for police matters, said he will check the allegations of Gimpeso.

He also said the jail officer from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology was asleep when he escaped.

"We will take actions on his revelations. If true, it won't be fair to the detainees there. The City will not allow maltreatment inside the city jail because it will also reflect on us," Tumulak said.

Gimpeso is serving jail time for violating Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
