Uber risks losing accreditation
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) warned the local unit of Uber Systems that it might lose its accreditation as it continues to activate new drivers into its system.
In a show cause order issued Tuesday, the LTFRB said that Uber continues to accept additional accreditation of transport network vehicle services (TNVS) despite its earlier order to halt activation by July 26. Grab is likewise covered by the order.
“Upon the conduct of investigation by the board...it was found that respondent (Uber Systems Inc.) willfully and contumaciously violates the said directive contained in the Order dated 26 July 2017, specifically, by continuing to accept additional accreditation of TNVS and/or activation of accounts,” the order stated.
LTFRB ordered Uber to submit its written explanation stating why their accreditation should not be cancelled within five days upon receipt of the order and appear before a hearing scheduled on Wednesday.
In its July 26 order, the Board directed Uber and Grab to deactivate drivers who were registered after June 30, 2017. Both TNCs should likewise submit their master list of all their drivers as of June 30, 2017.
The LTFRB has been conducting meetings with the transportation network companies (TNCs) to address various concerns such as accreditation and pending applications, accountability and dynamic pricing scheme.
