IN HONOR OF DR. LARRAZABAL
In the 12th edition of the University Run, organizers led by Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal III said they will dedicate it to his late father Dr. Potenciano Jr.
The 12th year of the University Run (UR) will be dedicated to the late Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal Jr., and is set on Aug. 20 at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal Jr., president of the Cebu Doctors' University Hospital (CDUH), passed away last June. He was 77.
“We are still mourning the passing of our father. This run is a tribute for him. The runners will traverse two loops, which will pass around the university, the pride and joy of my father,” said Dr. Yong Larrazabal during the event's launching yesterday.
The Run For Sight Foundation has decided to offer only short distances this year—the 10K, 5K and 3K categories. There will be open, employees and students divisions. No cash prizes are at stake but the winners in every division will get special prizes from the sponsors.
The finishers in the 10K will get a special medal courtesy of Suarez and Sons. The medal has the engraved face of the late doctor.
“We have exciting water stations and we also have the special medal. I invite you all to join the run,” said Dr. Philip Anthony Larrazabal.
Run organizers aim to draw about 2,500 participants. The proceeds of the event will go to the Run For Sight Foundation.
“We will be having a medical mission, probably after August. The medical mission is in our six hospitals,” said Yong.
Also present during the press conference were race director Joel Juarez, the event's major sponsor Arnold Choachuy of Sunsports and celebrity Donna Cruz-Larrazabal.
The official race route, according to Juarez, will pass through the bay walk road in the North Reclamation Area all the way to Mandani Bay.
Registration fee is at P600 for the 10K, P400 for the 5K and P300 for 3k. Registration is going on at the CDU campus, Run For Sight Foundation headquarters and online at runforsight. net.
