More cases eyed vs. foreigner

-

A Chinese national who allegedly duped his victims into buying fake mobile phones and other devices will face more complaints.

Abellana Police Station Chief Maria Theresa Macatangay said that five persons from LapuLapu City claimed they were also victims of Wentie Huang, 43.

“He allegedly stayed in a resort but did not pay, saying he had no money,” she said.

Huang, who hails from Zhejiang Province in China, would usually pretend he is in dire need of money so he can go back to his country.

He would then offer to sell mobile phones, which he claims to be genuine.

“He appears to be a helpless foreigner, wanting to go back to his country,” the police officer said.

Huang, though, was arrested last Saturday morning in Cebu City by Police Officer 2 Frederick Andales of Mandaue City Police Office, who was victimized by the foreigner.

An Abellana police officer, who requested anonymity, said Huang offered him to sell a laptop two years ago, but he begged off.

In 2013, Huang was one of the five Chinese nationals who were arrested in the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City for trying to smuggle 149 fake mobile phones.

Macatangay said the foreigner is possibly a member of a syndicate.

She said they are coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration 7 in gathering more information about Huang, who was detained in the Abellana Police Station. /
