Crisanto Amoranto foiled a robbery attempt on M.J. Cuenco Ave. in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City last July 26. That was his last heroic act.

A suspected robber returned with a gun and shot 21-year-old Amoranto in the head, killing him instantly.

Last Aug. 1, the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor indicted the gunman identified as Rolando Ybañez for murder before the Regional Trial Court.

“The accused, with deliberate intent, did attack Amoranto by shooting his head, which caused his death,” reads the charge sheet.

The charge is a non-bailable offense.

Amoranto, a service crew of a pizza parlor, reportedly stopped Ybañez from robbing a woman on M.J. Cuenco Ave.

Ybañez, 33, of Barangay Lorega, Cebu City, fled but later returned with a handgun and shot Amoranto in the back of his head.

Ybañez hurriedly crossed to the other side of the road after the attack.

Two witnesses have executed their affidavit to pin down the accused.

The two said they were waiting for a ride home when the accused sneaked behind Amoranto, pulled his gun and shot the victim thrice.

A habal-habal driver chased the accused and bumped him in the leg.

Ybañez managed to escape but later surrendered to the Parian Police Station, where he was identified by the witnesses as the lone assailant. /
