Hold the Ironman event somewhere else
The Ironman event might have been a success but how many people did it hurt? Road closures and traffic rerouting and, also, poor planning. The activity should be situated in a place where it would not disturb traffic to the the airport and not inconvenience the public.
We the public own these roads and expect our leaders to show some respect for our rights and not bend to private interests. Yes, some good can be had from it but there are more negatives, like people sitting for hours in traffic gridlocks, people missing their flights, and seniors living in Mactan island who cannot even get to their homes. Do you think that the tourist who had to pay for another plane ticket would ever come back to Cebu?
Hold the next Ironman event in the southern or northern part of the island where there traffic is not a problem, where they can block one lane of a road and not create inconvenience for people who are just trying to scratch a living from day to day.
Meanwhile to Mayor Paz Radaza, wake up and fix the traffic lights in Lapu-Lapu City because the first impression a tourist will get when he reaches the first intersection at the ariport is that nothing works in the Philippines. There the light has not been working for more than 20 years.-- Alfredo Acopan
The struggle continues
Despite the legal setbacks before the Supreme Court, the fight against the Marcos restoration continues. We are set to commemorate the 45th anniversary of Martial Law this year. The anniversary becomes even more meaningful given the attempts of the Marcoses to return to the highest position of the land.
The education campaign on Martial Law and the Marcos dictatorship continues. Calls to hold the Marcoses accountable continue. The younger generation must know the truth about the Marcos dictatorship.-- Bagong Alyansang Makabayan
