Stiker vs. grappler featured in CEFL

-

The two featured fights of this month’s Cebu Extreme Fight League (CEFL) - “Respect” promise to be barn-burners.

The main event features a classic striker vs. grappler fight when former boxer Tonix Borres faces BJJ blue-belt Cipoz Guadez on Aug. 26 at the Cebu City Sports Institute.

“I’ll do my best to give everyone a good show,” said Borres of JB Dream Fitness Gym.

Borres made his MMA debut this year with a unanimous decision over veteran Ervin Mosico. He followed it up with another unanimous decision win over Emmanuel Mogawa.

Guadez, who fights from Citi BJJ, is a Dumau gold medalist. He is an explosive and dynamic grappler who was recently promoted to a blue-belt.

“This is my debut. I’m not that young anymore. I have been into martial arts for a long time and I want to test myself,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity to be part of this event and the growing sport of MMA.”

The co-main event features a middleweight bout between two strikers - Nigerian Simon Uchenna and Rodel Valizado.

This is a very good fight card here in Cebu with Class-A MMA fighters. I hope we can hold at least two events a year. If those who stand out are willing, I will let them turn pro. BENIGNO CANIGA JR. Founder of Yaw-Yan Ardigma Cebu.

Uchenna, a second year Maring Engineering student of the University of the Visayas, is making his MMA debut. He fights out of Yaw-Yan Ardigma.

“I took up this sport to chal- lenge myself,” he said.

Valizado should be a stiff task for the debuting Uchenna. The Tatus Muay Thai MMA fighter has already three fights under his belt, in which he’s undefeated.
