Two minors were rescued during a drug bust in Sitio Lower Kawayan, Barangay Sambag 2 last Monday evening.

Lawyer Maria Theresa Macatangay, chief of Fuente Police Station, said the two girls, aged 16, had been considered as street-level pushers.

“It is sad to know that these minors are dealing with illegal drugs,” Macatangay said.

Shabu weighing 11 grams and valued at of P129,800 was confiscated from the minors, who were caught in that at 6 p.m. bust.

The Fuente Police will coordinate with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the custody of the minors.

“We are also looking into the possibility of filing a case against the parents of these minors for letting allowing their children to deal with drugs. This incident is an eye-opener for the parents and stakeholders that they should keep an eye on their children,” Macatangay said.

Macatangay said the girls’ situation was different from Kian Delos Santos, a 17-year-old boy who died in a police operation in Caloocan City recently.

“In this particular case, wala man nanlaban, so we have to arrest them lang. And even though they were carrying weapons with them, if they did not use them against us, of course we will not shoot at them. The case in the National Capital Region is certainly different from our case here in Cebu City,” she said.

Also arrested was Christopher Samosa, 26, whom authorities believed is a cohort of the minors’ source of drugs.

Samosa was caught with drug paraphernalia during a follow up operation inside an inn on Manalili corner Progreso Sts.

Meanwhile, intelligence operatives caught a suspected drug pusher during a buy-bust in Sitio Plastican, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City last Monday afternoon.

Joselito Butalid, 41, was arrested when the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) and the City Intelligence Branch (CIB) responded to a complaint from a concerned citizen of rampant illegal drug trade in the area.

Butalid yielded P118,000 worth of shabu in the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value.

He will face charges for the violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
