2 sisters drown in Naga beach resort

- JKV

Two sisters drowned while they were swimming in a beach resort in Barangay Langtad, City of Naga last Monday afternoon.

Police identified the fatalities as Juicyphel Obal, 16, and her younger sister, Juyce, 13.

PO1 Frank Alemento of the City of Naga Police Station, said that the girls’ father, Jufhil Quilano, noticed that his daughters were missing at 3:30 p.m.

Quilano, a jeepney driver, and his daughters were in the Guanzon Beach Resort to attend to the birthday party of the latter’s boss.

Police believed that the girls were swept by strong waves.

After a brief search, Juicyphel’s body was found floating a few meters away from where she and her sister were last seen swimming.

Juyce’s body was only found at 7 a.m. yesterday.

Officials of the City of Naga Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CNDRRMO) said Juyce’s body was found in the waters near the plant of Petronas Energy Corp., which is 500 meters away from where she and her sister drowned.

City of Naga Councilor Carmelino Cruz, who heads the CNDRRMO, said he will recommend to Mayor Kristine Vanessa Chiong not to allow swimming at the beach front of Guanzon Beach Resort temporarily.

Cruz said they discovered that the resort has no lifeguard and has not put in place measures that will prevent people from swimming towards the deep portion of the beach.

He urged the management to do something about it to prevent the same incident. /
