Councilor grills new councilor

-

Tension arose between a female lawyer, who was chosen to replace the late councilor Damian Gomez, and Councilor Gregorio Paquibot during the regular session of the Lapu-Lapu City Council yesterday afternoon.

Lawyer Jeannify Tan-Dungog replaced Gomez, who died last March.

Dungog met with Mayor Paz Radaza last Monday after the former submitted her appointment letter signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

It was the first time that Dungog attended the City Council session.

Before the agenda was tackled, Councilor Roque Wagwag acknowledged Dungog, but Paquibot asked the lawyer to submit her certificate of membership and certificate of nomination from the Liberal Party (LP).

Dungog said she has all the documents, but preferred not to give these because the letter of appointment from the President is enough.

“It just shows that he’s so ignorant. It seems that he is questioning the wisdom of the President. It’s a mockery to the Office of the President, a gross disrespect actually,” Dungog told reporters.

Paquibot then asked the council’s secretary to check with the Office of the Secretary General of LP if Dungog has the documents that he asked for.

For her part, Radaza said Dungog was nice when she met her last Monday.

But she doesn’t know who recommended Dungog since their political group endorsed someone else. /
